Welcome to the first website devoted to Iranian genealogy!

What is this website?

This website is an attempt to centralize the sources of information scattered around the internet and to provide guidance for those interested in researching Iranian genealogy. Its goals are to educate, facilitate research, and support and create new genealogy resources through its initiatives.

Why did I make this website?

For too long, genealogy has been centered around North America and Europe. Iranians are heirs to one of the world’s richest histories. But the lack of a “genealogy culture” in Iran, combined with the recency of centralized government records and the inaccessibility of the records that do exist, make Iranian genealogy challenging. That should not stop us. This website will demonstrate the many possibilities of Iranian genealogy research.

Iranian genealogy outside of oral history and the records maintained by one’s family may seem hopeless. However, there are many sources online that are useful to those interested in Iranian genealogy, and the number is only increasing. The difficulty is that information is spread across the internet, on various websites and in multiple languages. I wanted this website to be a one-stop shop with two main goals: (1) help people develop the requisite background knowledge for the most successful Iranian genealogy research; and (2) help people do their own genealogy research.

I started researching my Iranian genealogy knowing nothing. Years later, I did not want what I had learned to go to waste. Instead, I wanted to make sure no one would have an Iranian genealogy journey as unguided as mine ever again.

Who am I?

I am a young, amateur genealogist, who has toiled for the last several years tracing my Iranian genealogy. Genealogy and Iranian history/culture are passions of mine. This website combines these interests. I take great satisfaction in sharing what I’ve learned, learning more, and helping others in their Iranian genealogy journeys.

How will this website continue to develop?

This website will always be a work in progress. As more sources and information are put online, and as I learn more from you and others, this website will be updated.

This initiative began as one person’s project, but it does not need to stay that way. If you are interested in Iranian genealogy, want to support the website, want to help me on one of the website’s initiatives, or have ideas on how to make this website better, I would love to hear from you.

If you know of any sources or information that would be good additions to this website, please contact me. The future of this website depends on you, too. Any information about doing research in Iran and the existence/availability of birth, marriage, and death records in Iran would be especially helpful.

I have so many ideas for projects related to this website, and I cannot wait to see what the future brings for Iranian Genealogy! May this be the beginning of many discovering their stories.
