Family-Specific Resources

Click below to find online genealogical resources for specific Iranian families. Use either the Persian or the Latin alphabet tables to find surnames by their first letter.

Surnames are in alphabetical order within each page. For consistency, surnames on the Latin alphabet pages are romanized according to the United Nations’ 2012 Persian Romanization System. The letter ش (spelled variously as sh, sch, or ch) is romanized as “Š.” The letter چ (spelled variously as ch or tch) is romanized as “Č.” The letter خ (often spelled as kh) is romanized as “X.” The letter ژ (spelled variously as zh or j) is romanized as “Ž.” The letter ج (often spelled as dj) is romanized as “J.” “A,” indicates the sound of the ‘a’ in apple. “Ā” indicates the sound of the ‘a’ in car.

Keep in mind that many unrelated families have the same surname. Do not assume that a resource pertains to your family without further corroboration.
