Iranian Genealogy is excited to announce the launch of its new initiative: the Iranian Cemeteries Project! The Iranian Cemeteries Project seeks to preserve the valuable genealogical information found on gravestones in cemeteries throughout Iran.

Iran is making great strides in digitization by launching several cemetery search websites (see the Collections and Databases page). However, cemeteries in small towns and many pre-1979 burials in city cemeteries are not subject to this digitization effort. Even the cemetery search websites that do exist are often not functional or are cannot be viewed from certain countries.

The Iranian Cemeteries Project seeks to fill this information gap. The Project will consist of indexes of burials in Iranian cemeteries; these indexes will contain the names of the deceased, birthdates and deathdates, grave inscriptions, and grave images. Small town cemeteries and pre-1979 gravestones in city cemeteries are this Project’s priorities.
