Update: New Research Resources Added

Iranian Genealogy has two exciting updates! (1) the Collections and Databases page has been reorganized and expanded; and (2) the General Resources page has been expanded. Read on for details!

The Collections and Databases page represents the bulk of Iranian Genealogy’s research resources. Recently, I have reorganized and significantly added to that page.

Originally, the Collections and Databases links were divided into two categories: Record Collections and Cemetery Indexes. To better reflect the diversity of resources and to help users locate them, I have reorganized the page into the following categories: Record Collections, Digital Libraries, Periodicals, Cemetery Indexes, and Photographs.

I have also added 15 new resources to the Collections and Databases page!

There are 2 new Record Collection links: (1) Political Studies and Research Institute; and (2) Iranian-American Digital Archive.

There are 4 new Digital Library links: (1) Scientific Information Database; (2) Bahai Library Online; (3) Ketabpedia; and (4) Karaketab.

There are 4 new Periodicals links: (1) Iranian Newspapers; (2) National Library and Archives of Iran: Iranian Periodicals Page; (3) University of Bonn: Persian Online Periodicals; and (4) HathiTrust: Iranian Periodicals.

There is 1 new Cemetery Indexes link for the city of Tonekabon’s cemeteries.

Finally, there are 4 new Photographs links: (1) Smithsonian: Iran In Photographs; (2) Endangered Archives Program: Faces and Places in Iran; (3) Varesoon: Photos of Shiite Clerics; and (4) Political Studies and Research Institute.

The General Resources page is the first stop for those using the Iranian Genealogy website. It has useful resources and advice for those interested in tracing their Iranian family history. I have added 3 new links to the General Resources page.

The first two new links are to articles in Persian that are titled “Gathering Information for Genealogy” and “Family History Studies.” These articles are nearly the only extended Persian-language discussion of genealogy specific to Iran online.

A third link is to a webinar from RootsTech 2024, the world’s largest family history conference, titled “Preserving Iranian Family History.” Co-taught by Haleh Shoa (founder of Picturli) and Cathi Nelson (founder of The Photo Managers Association), it discusses using photographs in Iranian genealogy.

I hope that these new sources prove helpful to the users of this website. There is more to come! As always, if you know of anything that I should add or change about Iranian Genealogy, please let me know through the Contact Form!
